Measurements Height 31cm (12") Weight 2.4kg / 5.29lbs
An antique Khmer style seated Brahma in the post-Angkor, Bayon style. Brahma is the Hindu God of Creation and one of the Trimurti, the others being Vishnu and Shiva.
Brahma's four faces look North, South, East and West.
He is sitting with his four arms holding items including, a conch shell, mandala, Pinda, Trident, lotus bud, Kalasha, sutra and mala beads. These items symbolize Vishnu's divine powers, cosmic functions, and his role as the preserver of the universe.
-
Conch Shell (Shankha): One of the primary attributes in Vishnu's upper left hand is the conch shell, known as Shankha. Symbolizing the divine sound of creation, the conch is blown at the beginning of auspicious ceremonies and is associated with the sacred cosmic sound, "Om." Its presence signifies the origin and continual creation of the universe.
-
Discus (Chakra): In Vishnu's upper right hand, he holds the discus, known as Chakra. This razor-sharp disc represents the wheel of time and the cyclic nature of the cosmos. It is a symbol of Vishnu's omnipresence and his ability to control and govern the cosmic order.
-
Mace (Gada): His lower right hand holds his Gada or mace symbolising his mental and physical strength.
- Pinda (Ball): The lower left hand holds a Pinda. This is typically formed of rice or barley.
The objects held by Vishnu in his four arms collectively embody the principles of cosmic order, righteousness, and spiritual enlightenment. Each attribute serves as a symbolic representation of his multifaceted divine powers and cosmic responsibilities. Together, these implements create a visual narrative of Vishnu's role as the preserver and protector of the universe, ensuring the continuity of dharma and the eternal cycle of creation, preservation, and dissolution.
The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of each face. Each detail is rendered perfectly.
Traditional in appearance, the sculpture will bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.
