An antique Khmer style bronze seated Ganesha in the post-Angkor Bayon style. The distinctive patina of the piece is particularly delightful. Ganesha is the elephant headed son of Shiva. He holds his broken tusk in one hand and a bowl of sweetmeats in another hand. He is also holding his mala or prayer beads and a conch shell.

This beautiful 4-arm bronze Ganesha has facial features and ornate jewellery typical of the Bayon style. The cylindrical piling up of the hair into a high chignon and regimented hair curls demonstrate the ecumenical nature of iconography in the Bayon period, the former associated with the supreme form of Vishnu, the latter with Shiva. To the rear the Sampot is fastened with a butterfly style bow in the post-Angkor Wat style.

The direction of Ganesha's trunk has symbolic meaning. Here the trunk turns to Ganesha's right. This represents Moksha or enlightenment.  The perfect direction for those seeking or following a spiritual path.

Later he became widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles, patron of arts and sciences and the deity of intellect and wisdom.

One of the most recognizable of the Asian deities this representation of Ganesha is sure to enlighten your home with endlessly timeless style.

Let Us Help You Find The Piece You Desire

Thank you so very much! Well, I needed Buddha here -- and I certainly now have Buddha here in many ways and many forms -- with thanks to HDAsianArt. Each statue you've sent has worked out very well -- each in its own way -- each combined in settings with other art pieces -- each has blended well -- finishing off different areas of my home -- and all communicates well to tell a story of different aspects of my life. I intentionally chose your pieces -- to get away from the "norm" of beautiful gild Buddhas that everyone has -- your pieces are quite unique -- and a bit more "real" -- which serves my purpose well. So, thank you.
