Buddha Statue - Antique Baphuon Style Khmer Stone Buddha Head Statue - 14cm/6"
Measures (Height) 14cm/6"
An antique 11th century Baphuon style Khmer Buddha from Cambodia. The power emanating from this compelling Buddha image characterises Baphuon style.
As is typical with this style Buddha has a soft face and is adorned with a scalloped elongated ear. His jatamukuta (crown of hair) leads to a tall ushnisha, in the Baphuon style, decorated in lotus petals, symbolizing his high level of spiritual development. The lotus flower represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all.
The face has eyebrows described by a continuous ridged line, rimmed, plush lips and downcast eyes. His tiara or mukuta is also richly decorated. A tradition that continued to develop in Cambodia from the 9th century to the post-Angkor period.
One of the most recognizable of the Asian deities this representation of Buddha is sure to enlighten your home with endlessly timeless style.
