Antique Khmer Style Bronze Brahma - Hindu God Creation - 14cm/6"
Measurements - H14cm (6")
A 12th century antique Angkor Wat style seated Brahma. Brahma is the Hindu God of Creation and one of the Trimurti, the others being Vishnu and Shiva. He is sitting, panhandle, with eight arms holding his chakra (disk), sceptre, conch shell, fan, sutra and kalasha. His lower left hand is held in a gesture of offering protection to the devotee.
The kalasha is considered a symbol of abundance and "source of life" in the Vedas. It is referred to as "overflowing full vase" in the Vedas. The Kalasha is believed to contain amrita, the elixir of life, and thus is viewed as a symbol of abundance, wisdom, and immortality.
Brahma's four faces look North, South, East and West.
He is sat upon a lotus leaf decorated pedestal with his left foot resting upon a lotus flower. The lotus flower represents the attaining of enlightenment and the ultimate fulfilment that follows. This symbol is heavily used in Eastern religions, which is why it can appear as both a held item or a seat. Some say that as the lotus flower grows in dirty water but becomes something beautiful, it demonstrates how we must forget our attachments to the material world around us and focus on our inner spirituality in order to seek happiness.
The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face and hands. Each detail is rendered perfectly. Traditional in appearance, the sculpture will bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.
