Antique Khmer Style 8-Arm Bronze Angkor Wat Brahma - Hindu God Creation - 38cm/15"
Measurements H38cm (15")
An antique Khmer-style seated four-faced Brahma in 12th century Angkor Wat style. Each of the four serene faces symbolises Brahma’s omniscience, allowing him to gaze simultaneously in all four cardinal directions.
Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, is one of the Trimurti alongside Vishnu and Shiva. Here he sits with eight arms, holding attributes including a mirror, a sutra (holy book/knowledge), a lotus bud (purity), a mirror, mala beads, a conch shell (primordial sound) and a kalasha (abundance).
The kalasha is revered in the Vedas as a symbol of abundance and the “source of life”, described as an overflowing full vase. It is believed to contain amrita, the elixir of life, and thus represents abundance, wisdom and immortality.
This three-dimensional Khmer representation of Brahma is closely related in style to sculptures found at the Angkor Wat temple complex in western Cambodia. He wears traditional Khmer jewellery, including elaborate earrings and a richly decorated mukuta (crown).
The god is shown with four identical heads. Strands of twisted hair are arranged in horizontal bands in typical Bayon fashion, forming a quadruple jatamukuta. Each crown is encircled by a band of large pearls, a distinctively Khmer feature not seen in earlier works from other Southeast Asian traditions. The conjoined jatamukutas are topped with a four‑petalled flower framed by twisted locks of hair.
Each face displays open eyes with incised pupils, eyebrows rendered as a continuous line, neatly rimmed lips and a finely detailed moustache curling up at the tips. Brahma is seated in a half‑lotus position (ardhapadmasana) on a large, tiered pedestal. His four faces look toward the North, South, East and West.
The casting is exquisite, evident in the crisp modelling and refined details of every face and attribute. Each element is rendered with clarity and precision. Traditional in appearance yet full of presence, this sculpture will bring serenity and timeless style to any home, office or sacred space.

The Buddha statue is marvelous! There are not enough words to describe how deeply the happiness I could feel when looking at the statue. Again, I sincerely appreciate everything. By the way, the parcel was extremely well packaged, I really like the way you arranged things inside the box to keep the statue safe. I look forward to our next transaction in the future.
