An antique Thai style Hanuman statue.

Hanuman is a god and an ardent devotee of the god Rama and an avatar of the god Shiva.

The sculpture is in Thai style depicting a dynamic figure, recognisable as a senior officer from the heavy chain of office that crosses his chest.

Here, as in the Thai version of the Ramayana, Hanuman is shown with a trident-like weapon, symbolizing his immense strength, protective power, and role in upholding righteousness against evil.

The three prongs of the trident represent the Hindu trinity of creation, preservation, and destruction, signifying ultimate power.

    Hanuman and the Trident

Symbol of power and destruction: In some depictions, Hanuman uses the trident-knife to battle demons, specifically a demon sent by Ravana to stop him from getting herbs for a potion.

Regional variation: This specific depiction is more prevalent in the Thai version of the Ramayana, where it symbolizes his duty to protect and his formidable power.

Symbolism of the trident: The trident itself is a powerful symbol in Hinduism, with the three prongs representing the three aspects of the divine trinity: Brahma (creation), Vishnu (preservation), and Shiva (destruction).

This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add serenity to your home, office or sacred space.

My partner got back from Thailand this evening, and was surprised and delighted to see the walking Buddha statue I bought from you recently. We both like it very much indeed - you don't see so many walking Buddha statues, and this one is very well moulded and finely detailed. You also packed it very thoroughly for posting. So thank you very much! It looks very beautiful in our hall, facing visitors as they come through our front door.
