Singha Sculpture - Antique Thai Style Bronze Bodhi Tree of Thai Singha or Temple Lions/Guardians Statues - 11cm/4"
Measures (Height) 11cm/4"
Antique Thai style Thai Single, Temple Lions or Guardians decorating the Bodhi tree.
Each Singha is seated on the limbs of the Bodhi tree.
The Bodhi Tree also called the, Tree of Awakening, Mahabodhi Tree or Bo Tree, is a large sacred fig tree. Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher who became known as the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment or Buddhahood, circa 500 BCE under this tree.
The Singha is deeply rooted in Thai folklore and Buddhism. Legend has it that the Singha is a guardian spirit, symbolizing strength, courage, and protection. Its mythical presence is believed to ward off malevolent forces, ensuring the sanctity of temples and pagodas.
The Singha will serve and protect the pagoda. Like the komainu of Japan, shisa of Okinawa and snow lion of Tibet, the Singha is a variation of the Foo Dog Guardian Lions found in China.
In the realm of Burmese mythology and architectural splendor, the Singha stands as a testament to the enduring connection between culture, spirituality, and artistic expression. As these mythical guardians grace the entrances of temples, they invite us to appreciate the rich tapestry of Myanmar's heritage and the timeless significance of the Singha in shaping the nation's cultural identity.
In the heart of Thailand, where the Singha roars, a story unfolds—a story of courage, protection, and the eternal spirit of guardianship.
The casting is lovely as you can see in the fine details of each face. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful. This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add serenity to your home, office or sacred space.
