Vishnu Statue - Antique Thai Style Standing Bronze Vishnu Statue - 94cm/38"
Measures (Height) 94cm/38"
An antique bronze Thai Vishnu statue.
Standing samabhanga on a simple pedestal and clad in a long, folded sampot with fishtail pleat and sash. The face with wide features surmounted by a decorated cylindrical headdress. These represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all.
Here Vishnu, as the protector and preserver, is holding in his four arms mala beads, conch shell, sacred text and kalasha.
The kalasha is considered a symbol of abundance and "source of life" in the Vedas. It is referred to as "overflowing full vase" in the Vedas. The Kalasha is believed to contain amrita, the elixir of life, and thus is viewed as a symbol of abundance, wisdom, and immortality.
His softly contoured face with indigenous characteristic has a serene downcast expression, with heavy-lidded eyes, arched eyebrows carved in relief meet in the middle above a well-shaped broad nose, and wide lips with an insipid smile are framed by a second incised line.
