Antique Phnom Da Style Khmer Vishnu Head - Protector & Preserver - 28cm/11"
Measures - (Height) 28cm/11"
An antique Khmer Vishnu in the pre-Angkorian 9th century Phnom Da style. A serene yet benign image of Vishnu.
The Vishnu embodies authority with his iconic downcast gaze and unexpressive face. The general silhouette is heavier. The carving is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The features suggest the prana, or inner breath, that signifies superhuman power.
The diadem is carved simply. Without adornment. The inner rims of the ears are similarly simply sculptured. The lobes complete and hanging low. The face is defined by slightly arched eyebrows, full rimmed lips, open rimmed eyes and a rather broad, flat nose.
The face offers a naturalistic representation of musculature, delicately carved and refined facial features, typical of the Phnom Da style.
The perfect traditional in appearance Vishnu to bring serenity and timeless style to you home, office or sacred space.
