An antique Bakheng style bronze Shiva head, mounted on a wood base.
The power emanating from this compelling Shiva image characterises Bakheng style. As is typical with this style the Shiva has a soft face and is adorned with elaborate earrings.
His tiara or mukuta is also richly decorated. A tradition that continued to develop in Cambodia from the 10th century to the post-Angkor period. As the destroyer, Shiva is regarded as limitless, transcendent and unchanging. Shiva is also regarded as the patron god of yoga, meditation and arts.
This magnificent statue has perfect balance and proportions which are the key to a fine Shiva sculpture. The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face. Each detail is rendered perfectly.
The distinctive azurite and malachite patina of the piece is also particularly delightful. The sculpture provides the perfect traditional in appearance Shiva to bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.
