Shiva Statue - Antique Khmer Style Bronze Mounted Koh Ker Style Shiva Torso Statue - 27cm/11"
Measures (Height) 27cm/11"
An antique Khmer style bronze Shiva torso, mounted on a wood base (later), in the distinctive pre-Angkor Koh Ker style.
As the destroyer, Shiva is regarded as limitless, transcendent and unchanging. Shiva is also regarded as the patron god of yoga, meditation and arts.
The crescent moon is shown on the front of the Lord's head as an ornament. The waxing and waning phenomenon of the moon symbolises the time cycle through which creation evolves from the beginning to the end. Since Shiva is the Eternal Reality, He is beyond time. Thus, the crescent moon is only one of His ornaments.
The Trilochana of Shiva can be seen on his forehead - the Three-Eyed Lord. It is the eye of wisdom, free from “Maya”, the illusion, and duality of life. It is also believed to be the source of his untamed energy.
Shiva is part of the Hindu holy trimurti which includes Brahma and VishnuThis beautiful statue has perfect balance and proportions which are the key to a fine Shiva sculpture.
The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face. Each detail is rendered perfectly.
The distinctive azurite and malachite patina of the piece is also particularly delightful.
The sculpture provides the perfect traditional in appearance Shiva to bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.
