  • Antique Indonesian Style Bronze Javanese Teaching Buddha - 37cm/15"

    Measures (Height) 37cm/15"

An Indonesian (Java) Teaching Buddha in 13th century Majapahit style. The Buddha is stood samabhanga on a round lotus petal base which it itself stood on a square pedestal.  The lotus flower represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all.

His robe is draped over both shoulders, and a portion of the garment that covers the left wrist falls behind the figure. The lower hem of the robe comes all the way down so that the under-cloth or skirt is completely covered.

He holds his hands in front of his chest in the dharmachakra mudra. In sanskrit dharmachakra means the 'Wheel of Dharma'. This mudra symbolises one of the most important moments in the life of Buddha, the occasion when he preached to his companions the first sermon after his Enlightenment in the Deer Park at Sarnath. It therefore denotes the setting into motion of the Wheel of the teaching of the Dharma. In this mudra the thumb and index finger touch at their tips to form a circle. This circle represents the Wheel of Dharma, or in metaphysical terms, the union of method and wisdom. This symbolises generosity.

Let Us Help You Find The Piece You Desire

I've just returned home to find my amazing Ganesh sitting waiting for me. He is absolutely beautiful, even more so then the pictures. I've been smiling all evening. Thank you so much.

Emma, Brighton, UK

Just to confirm, the Buddha statue arrived ahead of ETA on Friday. Both delighted.

Ian, Oxford, UK

Received the Mahamuni Buddha statue from 19th Century. The piece is remarkable. Very fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase authentic burmese buddha piece with burmese script on the bottom from my own country. Noted fast shipping to Colorado and above all, I am very impressed with the customer service. The sale rep contacted me personally via email to help me find the right statue I was looking for. Thank you!

Christine, Colorado Springs, CO, USA
