An antique Shan style Buddha statue from Burma, this regal image is modelled after a 17th–18th century Burmese Jambupati Buddha of the Shan type. The Buddha is portrayed in full royal attire, adorned with rich jewellery worn over a monk’s robe, whose border falls gracefully over the left arm.
The Buddha wears a traditional Shan diadem crowned by a tall, pointed ushnisha in the form of a lotus bud, symbolising spiritual awakening and sovereign dignity. Elongated earlobes, set with heavy horn earrings, recall his princely origins, while the body is elegantly proportioned with broad shoulders and a slender waist. Seated upon a decorated pedestal, the Buddha’s face is serene and introspective, with downcast eyes and a firm, composed brow that together radiate calm and inner harmony.
His right hand reaches down with fingers lightly touching the earth in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, the “earth-touching” gesture. This pose represents the subduing of Mara, the tempter who assailed the Buddha with demons, storms, and his three seductive daughters. Unshaken, the Buddha called upon the Earth Goddess, Thorani, to witness his accumulated merit. Rising from the ground, she wrung torrents of water from her long hair, washing away Mara and his army—an enduring symbol of enlightenment, steadfastness, and the attainment of nirvana.
The casting is of exceptional quality, evident in the refined contour of the face and the precise rendering of ornamental details. A distinctive azurite and malachite patina enriches the surface, lending the piece depth, character, and a sense of venerable age.

Large and/or fragile pieces requiring palletising, specialist crating and/or extra packaging may take a little longer. Palletised shipments will be delivered curbside.
