Antique Phnom Kulen Style Hari Hari or Vishnu Statue - 58cm/23"
Measures (Height) 58cm/23"
An antique Phnom Kulen style stone Hari Hari or Vishnu statue. Vishnu is both world protector and preserver, restorer of moral order - he is all-powerful and all-pervasive by nature.
This style corresponds to the first half of the ninth century and the reign of Jayavarman II. It also marks a turning point in the evolution of the artistic imagery and prepares for the transformation towards classic Angkorian art.
The elegant silhouette of the sculpture expresses the vigour, force and power of the God. The face, large and calm shows a continuous and assertive eyebrow line. The moustache is well defined.
In his lower left hand Vishnu holds his gada or mace symbolising his mental and physical strength.
Vishnu is loose mounted on a wood base.
