Antique Bayon Style Bronze Kneeling Female Devi Statue - 44cm/18"
Measures - (Height) 44cm/18" (Weight) 6.4kg/14lbs
An antique 12th‑century Bayon‑style bronze kneeling female figure.
This dynamic and beautifully observed image shows a woman in a half‑kneeling pose, with one knee raised and the other resting on the ground—a graceful position frequently seen in both reliefs and freestanding sculpture of the Bayon period. The lively, poised attitude of the body closely recalls one of the most striking bronze figures in the collection of the National Museum of Phnom Penh (Reference: Ga.5476 / E.291 / E/I.61.1 / ក1.24.19), suggesting a similar courtly or ceremonial context.
Although she is clearly not a deity, the refinement of her features and the richness of her jewellery indicate a high‑status attendant, perhaps a court lady or temple retainer participating in ritual or performance. Her arms are raised to shoulder height, and would originally have supported a now‑lost accessory—likely a thin, flat object such as a screen, tray or mirror—further emphasising her role in service or ceremony.
The figure’s adornment includes delicately rendered necklaces, bracelets and a finely detailed waist ornament, all characteristic of 12th‑century Khmer metalwork. The bronze surface has developed an attractive, time‑worn patina that softens the modelling and enhances the sense of age and authenticity.
Elegant, expressive and historically evocative, this Bayon‑style kneeling female statue offers a rare glimpse into the world of Angkorian court life and temple ritual, making it a compelling addition to any serious collection of Khmer or Southeast Asian art.

Thank you so very much! Well, I needed Buddha here -- and I certainly now have Buddha here in many ways and many forms -- with thanks to HDAsianArt. Each statue you've sent has worked out very well -- each in its own way -- each combined in settings with other art pieces -- each has blended well -- finishing off different areas of my home -- and all communicates well to tell a story of different aspects of my life. I intentionally chose your pieces -- to get away from the "norm" of beautiful gild Buddhas that everyone has -- your pieces are quite unique -- and a bit more "real" -- which serves my purpose well. So, thank you.
