Antique Khmer Style Bronze Meditation Phnom Da Buddha Statue - 18cm/7"
Measures (Height) 18cm/7"
An early‑8th‑century, pre‑Angkor Khmer seated Buddha in the Phnom Da style, elegantly capturing the dignified serenity of early Khmer sculpture. Poised and quietly powerful, this work reflects the artistic dialogue between local Khmer taste and earlier Gupta and Dvaravati influences.
The figure sits on a simple pedestal, clad in a traditional two‑piece monastic ensemble: a long lower garment wrapped at the hips and a loose sanghati robe draped over the left shoulder. The drapery clings to the body in a naturalistic manner, subtly revealing the form beneath—a stylistic lineage that recalls early Dvaravati models and the classical realism of Gupta India. This treatment gives the statue a harmonious balance of spiritual restraint and lifelike presence.
Hands rest in the Dhyana mudra, the meditation gesture that evokes deep concentration, inner stillness, and the disciplined calm of the contemplative life. The face is serene and softly naturalistic, with half‑closed eyes that turn inward, a gently modelled mouth, and a lightly dimpled chin that together convey warmth and human tenderness. The hair is simply rendered and culminates in a lotus‑flower‑shaped ushnisha, a clear emblem of advanced spiritual attainment.
The bronze surface has developed a rich malachite‑green patina, lending the piece an appealing depth of colour and the tactile sense of venerable age. The quality of casting and refined modelling are evident in the delicate rendering of facial features and the subtle folds of the robe.
Traditional in character but alive with quiet humanity, this Phnom Da–style Buddha brings calm, historical resonance, and contemplative grace to any home, office, or sacred space. It is an excellent choice for collectors of early Southeast Asian sculpture and for anyone seeking an authentic, meditative focal point imbued with antiquity and serene presence.

Thank you so very much! Well, I needed Buddha here -- and I certainly now have Buddha here in many ways and many forms -- with thanks to HDAsianArt. Each statue you've sent has worked out very well -- each in its own way -- each combined in settings with other art pieces -- each has blended well -- finishing off different areas of my home -- and all communicates well to tell a story of different aspects of my life. I intentionally chose your pieces -- to get away from the "norm" of beautiful gild Buddhas that everyone has -- your pieces are quite unique -- and a bit more "real" -- which serves my purpose well. So, thank you.
