Antique Java Style Majapahit Standing Bronze Devi Tara Statue - 20.5cm/8"
Measurements Height 20.5cm/8"
An antique Java‑style standing bronze Devi Tara in the refined 13th‑century Majapahit tradition. Graceful and poised, she embodies the serene compassion of one of Buddhism’s most beloved female Bodhisattvas.
In Buddhist tradition, Tara is a Bodhisattva and revered goddess of compassion, responding swiftly to the needs and prayers of all beings. Here she stands upon a round double‑lotus pedestal, itself set on an octagonal base, the lotus symbolising purity, spiritual awakening, and the bestowal of great joy.
In her left hand she delicately holds the stem of a lotus that blooms above her shoulder, reinforcing her association with purity, compassion, and enlightened activity. She wears a richly bejewelled dhoti and sacred upavitas, while her softly downcast gaze conveys serenity, kindness, and deep inner focus.
On her head rests a decorative Javanese‑style tiara before the tall conical kirita‑makuta crown, signifying spiritual sovereignty and mastery over both positive and negative tendencies. Her aquiline nose, elongated earlobes, and large earrings are characteristic features of classical Javanese Buddhist sculpture. Behind her, an aureole rises around the head, representing her radiant divinity and protective presence.
The bronze has developed a wonderful warm brown patina, adding depth, character, and a strong sense of age to the piece. Elegant, devotional, and richly symbolic, this standing Tara is an ideal focal point for a home, office, or sacred space, inviting compassion, calm, and timeless spiritual beauty into its surroundings.

...the Ganesha statue has arrived safe and sound. I must admit to being somewhat apprehensive about buying something on the net having being burned before with purchases from India, but I absolutely love it.
