Mounted Antique Khmer Style Bronze Apsara Suchi Mudra Hand - 30cm/12"
Measures (Height) 30cm/12"
An antique Khmer style Apsara dancing hand from Cambodia.
Apsara dancing, a jewel in Cambodia's cultural crown, beckons audiences into a world of graceful movements, vibrant costumes, and rich storytelling. At the heart of this traditional dance form lies an intricate language of hand gestures known as mudras.
Apsara, meaning celestial nymph or divine dancer, is associated with Hindu and Buddhist mythology. Apsaras are celestial beings known for their beauty, grace, and association with heavenly realms. The dance, therefore, carries a spiritual essence, connecting the earthly realm with the divine.
Apsara dancing employs a sophisticated language of hand gestures, known as mudras, to convey intricate stories and emotions. These mudras are precise, symbolic movements of the hands and fingers that carry deep cultural and spiritual significance.
Here, the hand of the Apsara is posed in the Suchi mudra or 'needle'. The mudra influences the flow of energy in the body. The index finger is the representation of Vayu (Air). According to mythology, the mudra originated from Brahma, when he declared, “I am matchless.”
The Apsara hand is mounted on a wood base.
This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add serenity to your home, office or sacred space.
