Kali Statue - Antique Indian Style Standing Bronze Kali or Mahakali Statue - 19cm/8"
Measurements Height 19cm/8"
An antique Indian style victory posed bronze Kali or Mahakali sculpture in the 13th century Majapahit style.
This unusual depiction of the Hindu Goddess Kali or Mahakali sees her stood upon a prostrate Shiva.
Here, Kali has a single head and four arms that hold a severed human head and sword.
The sword signifies divine knowledge and the human head signifies human ego which must be slain by divine knowledge in order to attain moksha.
She wears a richly bejewelled dohti and upavita. His face has a downcast gaze on the vanquished demon.
She wears a garland of human heads. These represent Varnamala or the Garland of letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, Devanagari. Hindus believe that Sanskrit is a language of dynamism, and each of these letters represents a form of energy, or a form of Kali. Therefore, she is generally seen as the mother of language, and all mantras.
Upon her head she wears a decorative Indian style tiara in front of her Kirita-Makuta or tall conical crown. This symbolises control over Positive and Negative attitudes. On her foreheads she has a third eye or urna.
She has an aquiline nose and elongated earlobes with large ear rings.
Her trident can be removed.
