Antique Khmer Style Hindu God Hanuman Statue - 25cm/10" Tall
Measures - (Height) 25cm/10"
Antique Khmer style Hanuman statue.
Hanuman is a god and an ardent devotee of the god Rama and an avatar of the god Shiva.
The sculpture is in the Bayon style depicting a dynamic figure, recognisable as a senior officer from the heavy chain of office that crosses his chest. Similar images can be seen in reliefs on the Bayon temple that illustrate battle scenes during the 12th century. The concept of a military commander in monkey form derives from the Hindu epic of the Ramayana, where Prince Rama's forces were aided by the monkey army led by the monkey General Hanuman.
Hanuman is loose mounted to a wood block.
This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add serenity to your home, office or sacred space.
