Buddhist Stupa - Antique Thai Style Nirvana Stupa or Chedis - 23cm/9"
Measures (Height) 23cm/9"
A finely worked and unusual antique Thai style Chedis or Reliquary Stupa.
The stupa is probably the most popular monument in early Buddhism
and takes its origin from the burial mound. The earliest examples were constructed to store Buddha’s ashes and relics. In due course they were built to store the remains of Buddha’s famous disciples or holy manuscripts. This elegant Stupa refers to the Nirvana, parinirvana or death of the Buddha when he was 80 years old. It symbolizes his complete absorption into the highest state of mind.
It is bell-shaped and simply decorated.
The Stupa is formed of three separate but interlocking parts, surmounted by a detachable five-tiered umbrella finial.
The patina and details of this piece are particularly appealing.
This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add a unique touch to any room of your home or workplace.
